This week has been really breezy here in Perth Australia and the past few nights I get to carry out one thing I terribly miss about winter: outfit layering mania! When it comes to rocking my style up when the temperatures are down, the trick simply lies in clever styling and over the years I’ve found myself choosing Merino wool as a personal favourite fabric to play layer with as this particular fine and soft fibre easily blends with other luscious fabrics like cashmere and silk, creating pieces that are not only warm but also visually stimulating!

From comedy, musicals and cabaret, to circus, theater and more, I had such a difficult time picking out which to go to so I just randomly bought tickets to the Wau Wau Sisters cabaret show, Checkout: the Musical and Polly's Waffle comedy theater act. Hope they're all a bomb!

Today while lazing around wearing a vintage dress, Sportsgirl faux croc embossed clutch, mixed accessories and Steve Madden Troopa boots, I deeply thought about death. Well, not in that way. More in the sense of the visualization communicated by this saying:

"One day your life will flash before your eyes. Make sure it's worth watching."

Ever since I came across this quote I've chosen each day of my life to be remarkable and my attitude to be invincible. I'm grateful to note, so far only positive things have come out of it! Now I appreciate more and complain less. I take more responsibility of my own life and blame others less. I smile more and frown less. Why? because when I die and my whole life flashes before me, I better be seeing amazing stories filled with joyful adventures and unforgettable experiences!

Collection of shots taken during my weekends in January: took advantage of abandoned nooks and corners around Perth city in executing my passion for style photography, frequented new restaurants for food that is beyond super scrumptious, bought an ostrich egg (still deciding whether I want to eat it or incubate it until it hatches!), moved to a new office smacked right in front of Scarborough Beach facing the Indian Ocean so my drive to work is more adventurous, and got spoiled by my no less than amazing guy with many exciting dates!

The setup of this particular park reminds me of my own childhood days in Montreal, Canada. Back then I used to live merely three minutes worth of walk away from a park, which I frequent more than I probably should. I remember it being humongous (well when you're a kid, everything seems gigantic to you), complete with swimming pools, three separate playgrounds, a baseball field and multiple picnic areas! So stopping by this park in Perth today surely brought massive fond memories that put a smile on my face for the rest of the day.

I know I've seemingly been missing in action over here on this blog the past few days but I swear it's all for a valid reason! I've been busy filming in a Malaysian love drama series titled 'Atas Nama Cinta' (translation: In the Name of Love) last two weeks, as a Malaysian tour guide based in Perth. Here are few snapshots either I or my sister managed to capture in between acting out scenes, rehearsing lines and having a blast! The series will be aired on Akasia TV3 in Malaysia and online next month (I will announce the exact date and time on Twitter and Facebook). In the meantime, I'll be waiting... high with anticipation!

Life is too short so I choose to celebrate it! Every. Single. Day. Living in a world filled with setbacks, bad news and negativities, I've chosen to create a path of meaningful adventure for myself backed with a personal mission to attract as much positive enjoyment possible. Born a stubborn child that grew into a rebellious teenager and now a deeply aware adult, I question the existence of a lot of things. I appreciate organization, but hate rules. I respect diversity, but despise societal hiearchy. I still don't get the purpose of school/work uniforms. But now I've learned to celebrate my hard-headedness and ways of beating mediocre thoughts. My life these days are filled with only the things and activities that I choose to have myself involved in. I've learned to say no to the good so I can make room for the great! I value personal development and quality of life as much as I value freedom and mobility, so few of the things that make me happiest include managing purposeful organizations and businesses, supporting unconventional fashion and life styles, reading mind-stimulating books (this one is my ultimate favourite), travelling, food from all over the world, sunsets at the beach, reggae and zumba, making new friends and creative photography. Life is beautiful and I'm here to absorb every shine!

Spent a couple of exceptionally interesting hours with the kangaroos at Caversham Wildlife Park here in Perth to teach them how to rock out cool poses while maintaining a smize, as perfectly executed by roo #1 in the first shot! Feeling particularly adventurous (aka crazy), I decided it was only appropriate that I whip up a (somewhat) complete safari getup exhibiting a Shakuhachi drawstring vest dress and Australian leather bush hat, topped with mixed accessories and wedges by Betts. Apparently whispers and stares from the surrounding crowd toward my shoe of choice didn't stop me from having an amazing time!

Amidst all the exciting craziness that has been happening since I came back to Perth two weeks ago I totally forgot I have these shots hidden in between a plethora of snaps in my desktop folders. A so-called visual summary of my trip back to Malaysia for a whole two months; chilling out in the capital city Kuala Lumpur known for its monumental Petronas Twin Towers, showing the family cats Moffy and Molly endless love and undivided attention (for once), having fun at my brother's jamming/recording studio and eating at the most interesting places around the city (you can literally find any kind of food in Malaysia... including my personal favourite Mexican bites!), attending my cousin's wedding in a village hours away from the city (what a relief!), indulging in extremely juicy tropical fruits like pulasan and mangosteen, and not to mention witnessing a phenomenal sunrise from up high in the sky on the way back to Perth!

I was one super duper happy camper yesterday in Fremantle, between hitting up the markets, eating at one of the harbour-side restaurants and relaxing in the park while watching the ferris wheel go round. The amazing sunny-yet-windy weather allowed for an easy chill-out white dress from Forever 21 teamed with a bucket bag bought at a flea market in Malaysia, necklace and ring from Equip, sunglasses from Mango and the usual calf-high gladiators (not photographed). I was so jolly to be out on a such a perfect day that I almost did a cartwheel in the middle of the street. To the benefit of society, fortunately the realization that my dress is super short and the fact that I was wearing transparent underwear was solid enough to stop me.

I'm definitely getting more used to fluorescent colour-blocking since this dynamic combination, though I can't seem to take my blacks totally out of the mix! I've always been a fan of hot colours like this vintage Versace cape and this faux snakeskin Sportsgirl clutch but each of these pieces have always been the only neon highlight donned alongside its neutral counterparts. This season while basking under the Australian summer sun I attempt to get more comfortable with pairing at least two super bright items in one outfit. So today I deliberately pulled out this bright yellow tank top bought from a flea market in Malaysia to pair it with my hot green vintage snakeskin clutch, Topshop leather skirt, studded Betts boots, Mango sunnies and mixed accessories from Lovisa, Sportsgirl and Diva.

Last Day of 2011

My own very last day of 2011.

We did so much! Started the day fishing with friends in East Perth while having a picnic catered by good ole Nando's. Happily caught a couple of decent sized tailor fishes and decided it was time to get going. Headed to Hillarys and couldn't resist ordering something new (8-slice Mexican flavoured pan) from my favourite pizza joint, Little Caesars, and the super spiciness called for its creamy counterpart in the form of chai lattes from San Churros chocolateria! Early dinner perfection before we witnessed the amazing Perth sunset by Sorrento boat quay. As the moon replaced the sun, we headed home for quick energy recharge and headed out again for movies at my favourite drive in spot... one hair makeover later. Got really excited as soon as we found out Happy Feet 2was playing! Such an amazing movie and apparently I was still full of energy as soon as we headed out to the city after the movie ended at 11pm. Arrived in the city perfectly in time for the fireworks! After all the seemingly never-ending oohs and ahhs, we headed to the beach and totally passed out to the sound of the waves... until sunrise.

It was the best last day of 2011 I could've ever imagined.

Goodbye again Kuala Lumpur... and hello again Perth!!

I've had a lot of fun this year hopping back and forth between Malaysia and Australia for five times total, and am only few progressive steps away from realizing my dream of living a location independent lifestyle as an adventurous digital nomad! Freedom, independence and mobility are the qualities I value most in life and on top of my appreciation for style, I'm grateful enough to be able to live up to them to the fullest this year. The past few months have been exceptionally inspiring for me and my mind has been a whirlwind of mental fireworks (which effects I'll be exploring and documenting much more on this blog really soon so stay tuned) that resulted in many many sleepless nights. Nevertheless... my sketch book is overflooded with exciting ideas so I can't exactly complain!

Hanging out at Chateau de Caffeinees. Just discovered this new quaint spot hidden in between much bigger cafes and restaurants along a super busy street here in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. The place is well known for its range of smooth comforting coffees but I wasn't in the mood for one this particular evening so a glass of fresh apple and lime juice was in order instead to go with my french onion soup. Both the drink and soup turned out perfect. In fact, the ambience of this place is just what I needed to re-energize after a day of running around completing errands like a headless chicken. I can say I came for the food... but stayed for the ambience.

I wore a bright blue vintage velvet dress from the 60s, gladiator sandals from City Beach, fluorescent orange ipad case from Sportsgirl as a clutch, watch from Tag Heuer, rings from Forever21, Sportsgirl & Lovisa, silver cuff from a vintage market, sparkly silver bracelet from Equip and sunnies from Mango.

Overpiled with seemingly unlimited supply of books, magazines and random cool thingamajigs from all over the world, any bookstore for me is a heaven of information as much as it is medium for mental transformation -- to discover new ideas, to know how it feels (albeit figuratively) to walk in other persons' shoes and best of all... to let my imagination run wild and free! I actually don't even know where to begin but... I won the Steve Madden Australia Sole Search competition! The way I found out was epically staggering though; I'm in Malaysia at the moment and were internet-less for two days so I had no idea what was going on when the result was announced until I received a long distance phone call this morning from my friend Zak in Perth. I was deep asleep when he rang with this mega exciting news and I could've sworn I thought I was still in dreamland. My first reaction was: "No. You're lying. I didn't win."

But I really did. And I want to thank each and every one of you special soul who voted for Distrikmode! Your love and support is priceless to me. It just motivates me to do bigger and better! I seriously can't wait to embark on this exciting blog adventure with Steve Madden so stay tuned for more insanity from me!

Diana and I actually go wayyy back; I've known her since the 90s when we both used to live in Montréal, Canada. Recently acquired this vintage floral velvet dress here in Kuala Lumpur and found myself stuck between two options: whether to shorten it to a mini dress or leave it as is. I didn't want to regret not at least taking a shot of it in its original form, here teamed with a pair of vintage leather boots and studded fringed bag from Dangerfield, so I would have some sort of evidence on how it used to look like just in case the cut turns out to be a major disaster! But after examining these snaps I'm finding myself leaning more and more towards getting it shortened, backed by another pretty valid reasoning: by the time I get back to Perth it'll be summer and scorching hot so I really don't need that extra length!

I had such a difficult time picking out favourite pieces from the Bernard Chandran showcase at MIFW. There were just too many lustworthy designs; hence the massive flood of images. Every single piece captured here simply speaks to me. I was deeply seduced by the combination of innovative cuts and brilliant layerings, fluidity in the fabric movement and incorporation of luminous elements in a clever enough way to be captivating without being excessive.

I had a blast at the Glory of Kebaya showcase -- didn't realize how amazing the effect can be when lavish traditional fabrics like sequined lace and malay songket are used in less excessive kind of way. Trying to get more wear out of this sparkly party dress (made of a gazillion snake-printed sequins) I bought three years ago by styling it in a way to make it look more casual -- teamed it with a pair of overused boots, a fun hat, sunnies, the usual accessories and a simple vest. No other way to highlight the beyond phenomenal Carnby-S sequin platform boots from Steve Madden than by toning down the rest of the outfit: made my custom designed leather harness less striking than as once styled before by layering it with its nude counterpart, the not-so-foreign-to-the-blog Topshop silk kimono bouse. Threw in a pair of plain biker shorts, Chanel purse and aviator sunnies into the equation and I was ready to rumble! The only accessory missing was a 300kg Night Rod Harley bike.

I was psyched to be one of the 1,200 guests at His Majesty theater in Perth when designer Melanie Greensmith launched her Wheels & Dollbaby Spring Summer 2011/12 collection La Pin Up Deshabillable to close Perth Fashion Festival. Not to mention the extreme height in energy and excitement when special guest Katy Steele performed with Melanie’s husband Divinyls guitarist Mark McEntee as 20 models graced the stage with glamour!

What's a great sunshine-filled evening if not spent breathing in fresh oceanic air, especially to calm self down after hectic days of packing and runing errands? The bliss of living merely 15 minutes away from the beach. Took my pals the custom made billowy low cut dress, Sportsgirl chain harness, the ever loyal Australian bush hat, MNG sunnies, Steve Madden Westii-L leopard wedges and a super relaxed attitude to North Beach to enjoy the Indian Ocean horizon as the sun began to set. Whether I did or did not get deeper in sync with nature afterwards and took everything off to dip in the water with no single thread on skin is another totally different story!

Made this weekend ours with a super spontaneous road trip where a special soul and I headed south all the way down to Margaret River with exciting stops in Mandurah, Bunbury, Busselton, Dunsborough, Yallingup and Cowaramup along the way. Nothing like travelling wild and free -- calling the backseats of our wagon beds for two nights, showering outdoors by the beach (such an exhilarating experience), checking out local farmers' markets, trying out new delectable delights and singing (shouting) along to joy-packed Jason Mraz tracks while driving with these specific verses on repeat a ridiculous number of times:

Though it wasn't as easy to capture each design due to limited lighting I was still left captivated by the presentation that effortlessly conveyed the beauty of unifying feminine fabrics with structural silhouettes.

For those who know how beyond infatuated I am with using stylish body jewelries to garnish daily dressing it would be no surprise at all when I say I had to collect my jaw off the ground after this showcase. So awestruck by the series of jewel mania but my absolute favourites include all the pieces captured in the first shot: stone studded neck plate, cross ring and panel harness, over sized cuffs and cross leaf harness. Totally wouldn't mind having any of these golden spices integrated into my wardrobe for that extra flavour!

An impromptu decision to undo the plaits in my hair refined hours beforehand led to a head covered with frizzy curly mane, which I felt couldn't have been more sublime to fit the ensemble consisting of a vintage corset and fox fur stole complete with head and tail (both bought at my favourite vintage shop in the Fremantle E-Shed markets), Supré sheer cardigan, Junk leggings, Betts boots, and mixed accessories. Such an exciting night it was, catching up with friends and chatting with dear Willabelle!

At the Nikon photography workshop exclusively for bloggers recently held as part of Perth Fashion Festival 2011. It also just happened to be one of those days where I felt like keeping things mostly simple but spicy, letting each piece shine with its own statement: the fuss-free cotton top from An Old Flame with its asymmetric one shoulder balloon sleeve (I'm insanely addicted to this super versatile piece. Can't wait to partner it with leather skirt or shorts in summertime!), the Sportsgirl chain harness with its captivating design intricacy, the vintage snakeskin purse with its bold green hue and the solid bronze cuff from Lovisa with its oversized stone detail. Although it's a very rare occasion that you would see me in pretty frills and soft pastel colours, especially pinks and baby blues, without a doubt these soothing hues managed to get me a little bit more excited about summer being just around the corner!

Proud to present you the birth of my design child that is the studded and ringed leather harness. It was such a thrilling experience collaborating with my uber talented friend Peter who owns a shop in the Fremantle markets to create this one hell of a creature. We had so much fun throughout the whole process -- from designing to redesigning, from laughing to disagreeing and from nothing to joy jumping! I still remember Peter's reaction first day I stepped into his shop to ask if he could realize my leather harness design. His first words were "For your dog?". I will never forget that! Just like how I will permanently ingrain in mind the moment I laid eyes on Peter's spread of sultry nude coloured leather (which I chose for this harness). To even call it love at first sight wouldn't justify the height of emotion apperceived.

The most precious gems are always found in most unexpected places. Like this 'Red Riding Hood' vintage Versace cape, discovered in the children's department while shopping in London!
